Following the confirmation of an Ebola case in Nigeria, the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the Ekiti State House of Assembly for Constituency 1 (Ido/Osi), _Honourable Olayode Omotoso_, known for his very strong commitment to the health of the people, has reacted.
He could not remain indifferent. Nothing is more valuable than the health of his compatriots and those of Ido/Osi. In a statement this Thursday, October 22, the politician calls on the residents of Ido/Osi, Ekiti and the entire Nigeria to remain calm but above all vigilant. Indeed, the Federal Government confirmed on Tuesday, October 20, an imported case of Ebola of the Bundibugyo strain in Abuja. It involves a woman who arrived from Uganda on October 3, whose symptoms began on October 7. She is currently in isolation in a private hospital in Abuja and 44 contacts have been identified. This is the first case in Nigeria since the 2014 epidemic. To date, there is neither a vaccine nor a specific treatment for this strain.

"The health of our mothers, fathers and children in Ido/Osi is my priority. This alert concerns us all," Honourable Omotoso declared. He seized the opportunity to give the following prevention advice, in line with the NCDC and WHO. "Omon oluabi" urged his people to wash their hands regularly with soap and water, to use hand sanitizer, to avoid risky contacts, not to touch the blood or bodily fluids of a sick or suspected person and to trigger a rapid alert in case of sudden fever, weakness, muscle pain, vomiting or diarrhea. The Honourable also invited Ido/Osi not to self-medicate and to immediately call the health authorities before going to the hospital. He then turned to the food safety of his compatriots. In this regard, thoroughly cooking bushmeat and avoiding handling dead animals must become a reflex. "Do not give in to panic," he added, before concluding. "We defeated Ebola in 2014 through discipline. We will do it again. Let us protect Ido/Osi and Nigeria together."
